Recycling Trash Into Smiles

Recycling Trash Into Smiles!

cydcor recycles

Cydcor team members recycle for cash!

We know little things can add up to a big difference.  In continuing our fundraising work for Operation Smile, we have been collecting recyclables and donating the proceeds!

We placed recycling containers designated especially for Operation Smile fundraising around the office. Once they are filled, a Cydcor team member volunteer brings the items to the recycling center to collect the refund.

We have already raised enough for one Smile (each one is $240) and are well on our way to another – our current tally is almost $380!

Since partnering with Operation Smile in 2010, Cydcor and its network of independently-owned sales offices have raised enough to fund two medical missions, and are well on the way to a third! The missions take place in areas of the world with limited medical care; a team of professionals provide cleft palate surgeries to those who would have no way of obtaining the surgery otherwise.

We’re really excited about each and every dollar we are able to raise and contribute. Operation Smile is our passion. Recycling is so easy to do and can really add up – and make a difference.

Cydcor is happy and proud of its efforts to give back to the communities that support our business.  You can donate to the Cydcor Operation Smile page today and make a difference in a child’s life.

Cydcor at EARTHS

Cydcor volunteers at EARTHS

Cydcor volunteers at EARTHS

Cydcor began a project working with EARTHS magnet school this year to mentor and tutor students for the elementary school.

Each day of the week, two different team members from Cydcor volunteer for an hour in one of these classrooms, working with children and teachers on a variety of projects and learning sessions.

Last year, Cydcor team members created literacy kits for faculty, which contained games and activities for students to encourage reading comprehension. Volunteers also assisted the school in a gardening project – in line with the earth science focus of the magnet school.

“Cydcor volunteers are a true gift to our students! Our kindergarten children look forward to interacting with the Cydcor staff, and their presence allows students to receive individual and small group time,” said Jennifer Boone, principal of EARTHS. “The time and impact mentors have on our children is priceless. Cydcor is a true example of a business that gives back to the community.”

“Our goal is to support EARTHS by mentoring the kids, helping them cultivate confidence in their own skills and abilities,” said Cydcor Chief Operating Officer Vera Quinn. “Gaining the academic skills to succeed is just one part. Mentorship is so important to the overall development of children, and we really want to make a difference in their lives.”

Vera Quinn on the Day of Smiles

I have been with Cydcor for seventeen years.  In 2010, we launched our partnership with Operation Smile.  The work we do to raise money for this cause has added an extra level of meaning to the work we do at Cydcor and our community.  We were already giving employees volunteer hours and donated to charities, but we especially appreciate our special relationship with Operation Smile. I was able to participate in the mission last year, and I got to see first hand how we have the power to change lives for good.

Last year, we were able to raise enough money to fund a mission to provide cleft palate surgeries to children in need.  Cleft palates often cause complications for feeding and breathing in infants, and many of them don’t survive.  The surgeries we were able to fund have been able to change the lives of these children and their families.  The trip was able to pay for nearly 620 surgeries for patients in Brazil.

The success of Cydcor is based on our distinctive culture, which is one that is passionate about giving back to communities around the world.  We have already been able to fund one more medical mission this year, and our goal is fund another.  That is why we decided to launch the Day of Smiles Campaign. This weekend will unite our network of more than 200 sales offices to raise money and hit our total goal of $400,000 for the year.

Our office has been developing programs throughout the year to raise money for our cause.  We believe this weekend alone will fund a $150,000 mission.  We ask for your support in restoring smiles to children around the world.  Please visit Cydcor’s Operation Smile Team page to donate now.  If two dozen people donate just ten dollars, we can fund a surgery.

Also, please follow Cydcor on Twitter and our Cydcor Operation Smile Facebook page to keep up with all the activity.  If you are participating in the fundraiser, be sure to tell your friends online about it with the hashtag #dayofsmiles.

Cydcor Operation Smile Garage Sale Funds Two More Surgeries!

Garage Sale Funds Two More Surgeries!

A big thank-you to our team members who volunteered to come out last Saturday for our MEGA Garage sale to raise money for Operation Smile.  We raised over $600, which is enough to help two children have a better life by restoring their smile.

The sale took place on Saturday, September 7th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Earth Elementary School’s basketball courts.  Gently used items were donated by Cydcor team members just days before the sale.

Team members that donated items were also eligible for raffle tickets to win a lunch with our CEO, Gary Polson.  Volunteers who helped us set up and take down the sale got five tickets!  Congratulations to our winner, Miriam Caballero, who also received recognition this week from our Joy Germ Club for spreading the most smiles around the office.

The Cydcor home office has now reached our overall goal of raising $30,000 for Operation Smile.  In addition to the sale, we organized a snack bar, wine tasting, movie nights, a karaoke event and more.  The $30,000 is part of an overall company goal to fund a $150,000 medical trip overseas.  This is the second year in a row that Cydcor has been able to raise over $150,000 for Operation Smile

We Took on the Corporate Games…and Won!

BasketballThis year’s Corporate Games were better than ever before. Why? Because we rocked! We participated in 12 events and medaled in 10 different individual events. It was the first year that we also won the overall points and winners trophy for the entire Division C competition, which is geared for companies with 85-100 people. We incorporated our fundraising for Operation Smile into the games, too, by selling water, having food trucks donate a portion of what they sold, holding a cornhole tournament, and so much more. Our participation was stellar, with a diverse group of team members participating at the events. Check out our video here.

Awards and medals won included:

Operation Smile Gala at Cipriani!

Last weekend, selected sales office owners from Cydcor’s network attended the Operation Smile black-tie gala Op Smile celebrityat Cipriani in New York City. They had the opportunity to rub elbows with celebrities, interact with other high-level fundraisers, and celebrated their accomplishments together.

It was definitely a time to be celebrated; those selected have worked tirelessly with their offices to creatively fundraise for the organization, using creative resources to motivate their teams and help children across the globe receive new smiles. Last year, we raised enough for a medical mission to Rio De Janerio.

We’re well on our way to funding a second mission – about $118,000 has been raised so far! Check out our press release about the Cirpiraini event and our Operation Smile fundraising page. You can also take a peek – and join! – our Cydcor Operation Smile page.
