Cydcor Reviews ‘The Truth About Leadership’

Thank you visiting Cydcor Reviews. Here is Cydcor’s Review of The Truth About Leadership by James Kouzes and Barry Posner:

About The Truth About Leadership: Kouzes and Posner have written an engaging and personal book, which reveals ten time-tested truths that show what very leader must know. They explain the questions leaders must be prepared to answer and the real-world issues they will likely face.

The authors base their book on thirty years of research, over one million responses to their leadership assessment, and the question people most want leaders to answer. Drawing from cases spanning over thirty years of leaders from around the world, this book can aid in leaders how to do the real and necessary work needed to bring about essential changes in organizations and communities.

Why Cydcor recommends this book to future leaders: As the title details, this is a book written specifically for leaders. Kouzes and Posner have written an excellent book in a casual voice that explores examples of several different industries to make their book accessible to leaders from all generations, and from all levels of experience and industries.

Our favorite part: The authors provide what they characterize as “The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership.” They identify and examine these simple truths about great leadership that have endured throughout human history.

The authors then go on to introduce the “ten truths”:

1- You make a difference.

2- Credibility is the foundation of leadership.

3- Values drive commitment.

4- Focusing on the future sets leaders apart.

5- You can’t do it alone.

6- Trust the rules.

7- Challenge is the crucible for greatness.

8- You either lead by example or you don’t lead at all.

9- The best leaders are the best learners.

10- Leadership is an affair of the heart.

What sets this book apart from the rest is instead of just introducing broad concepts, the authors provide research to back up and showcase each truth in a concise and direct manner. It is a must-read for anyone pursuing a more active leadership role.
