Bowling and Movies = Successful Operation Smile Fundraisers!

Operation Smile photo for press release

In recent weeks, we’ve had two fundraisers for Operation Smile that have raised significant funds. This demonstrates what we know:

#1. Once we all put our minds to something, we can achieve it

#2. We won’t stop until we meet our overall fundraising goal for Operation Smile!

Here’s info about what we did:

Bowling Night

The Cydcor Bowling Night raised more than $880 for Operation Smile. Approximately 75 team members, their family and friends, and Business Building Block attendees (sales professionals from independent sales companies who were in town attending a networking event at Cydcor’s corporate office) came to the event.  We were creative with our “highlighter” theme, sporting highlighter goatees, jerseys, vests and ties, and much more.

Movie Night

The Cydcor Movie Night took place at the local Muvico Thousand Oaks for a screening of a popular children’s movie.  A total of $755 was raised; 151 tickets were sold at $5 each. Some of the tickets purchased by Cydcor team members were donated to families at EARTHS Academy, a local elementary school. During pre-ticket sales at the theater, celebrity Jamie Foxx purchased several tickets – demonstrating a widespread support of the organization.

Next week, we’re having a fundraiser at a local Italian chain eatery and we can’t wait to see how much we will raise!

Health and Wellness? YES!

Mar 15, 2013

Health and wellness were the names, fun was the game! Cydcor just had its first “Health and Wellness Fair” right at corporate headquarters and it was a rousing success. Our team members flocked to the various booths, which ranged from chair massage and yoga to skin care/DermaScan screening and smoking cessation. Representatives from 18 different vendors answered questions and provided valuable information. A cool raffle, baskets full of healthy snacks, and green drinks were provided as well.

This health and wellness fair was the first of its kind for Cydcor, which values itself on its unique corporate culture. As one of the  best place to work, we provide an array of programs for team members, including paid volunteer hours and active participation in programs like the Ventura County Corporate Games. We’re also heavily involved with Operation Smile, a children’s medical charity, and have already had several fundraisers for the organization, including our recent bowling night and movie night.

Thank you to all of the vendors who came out on this unique and fun day!

Our team night at a local Mexican restaurant to raise funds last week was a win! More than $800 was raised, which will give about five children new smiles.

The restaurant donated 20 percent of all proceeds to Operation Smile. A raffle was also held, with prizes ranging from Laker tickets to restaurant gift cards going to 10 team members. Highlights: Delicious food, great music, team member bonding, and meeting families. We can’t wait for our next team night – movie night at a local theater!

It's the Holidays...and Cydcor is in the Spirit!

Dec 19, 2012

The holidays have been the perfect time for Cydcor to continue our “giving back” mentality. This season, for the second year in a row, many team members purchased gifts for children at a local elementary school and then a group of us took the presents over to the school and delivered them to the children. We had a giving tree party with cocoa, cider, and baked treats while team members gathered around the tree and chose wish lists. There were 107 wish lists to fill. All were taken and filled in the next week by our team.

Team members chose wish tags and replaced them with an ornament while we snacked, watched “The Grinch,” and got into the holiday spirit. Gifts were delivered by “Santa” and Cydcor elves to the children on December 18th.

We’re looking forward to 2013 – there are many, many good things for us to do!

A message from Vera Quinn, Chief Operating Officer

Ready, set, go! I'm so excited to see our Cydcor team members prepare for the Ventura Corporate Games - they are gearing up to win in numerous categories including volleyball, bowling, indoor volleyball, basketball, kickball, softball, ping pong, dodgeball, football, 5K, mini golf, bowling, and go-karts. As a corporate sponsor and winner of the JD Probasco Spirit Award in 2011, along with several medals, we have been waiting all year to participate in the event again. We're in it to win it!

To prepare for the Corporate Games, our team members had a tee-shirt competition and the winning design is being printed on the tee-shirts that we'll wear during the event. We also participated in numerous "practice" sessions, had motivational meetings, and encouraged one another to attend. During Wednesday night's opening ceremonies, we will have our own booth, participating in the run/walk/jog and enjoying the food and music.

Our enthusiasm, energy, and dedication aligns with the company's culture that focuses on bringing out the best in one another and showing pride in every task we take on.  The Corporate Games enables us to demonstrate that pride, coming together as a company to get results. We are constantly supporting one another - during the Corporate Games and on a day-to-day basis. I'm looking forward to the games and watching every participant demonstrate what Cydcor is all about - determination, drive, and the will to succeed. It's all about the team!

Cydcor team members jump-started 2012 with their annual Kick-Off Meeting! During the two-day event, team members from all departments gathered together to network, learn, and brainstorm. Some team members and campaign teams were also recognized during the awards ceremony, which honored those who have made a significant impact over 2011 – and followed Cydcor’s Behaviors We Value.

Cydcor team members also attended an offsite bowling fundraiser, which was donated to EARTHS Magnet School in Newbury Park. The funds were raised through a Queen of Hearts game, which enabled Cydcor to donate more than $600 to the school! Cydcor regularly volunteers time to the school through a specialized tutoring program. Cydcor is looking forward to a great 2012 and beyond!

Lessons from an Egg

Sep 7, 2011

Team members test their egg drop devices.

Last week, everyone at Cydcor participated in a team building exercise where we had to create a device that would protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped about 10 feet.  We divided into groups of about 8-10 people and given a box of supplies to create the device. We had a limited amount of time and the pressure was on.  As we were working on our design, gathering all of our ideas and getting all of our brains in the game, we noticed that other groups were creating a parachute-type tissue. We did not have the tissue. We assumed every team got something different in their box.

We ended up creatively using materials such as straws, string and rubber bands to enable our egg to drop as if unwinding a yoyo. What we learned was this: If we lured down the egg, it would never break. As we had seen earlier, many of the other groups had created parachutes. We realized after the time was up that our parachute material was stuck inside the top of the box and we had not noticed.

The lesson that was reinforced in the exercise is that it is possible to come up with superior solutions with fewer resources than we think we need.  By putting our brains together, we will surprise ourselves by how creative we can be.
