Summer Intern Kick Off 2014

On Tuesday, June 2nd Cydcor held our first intern kick off party. Held at Triunfo Park, our six amazing interns got together for the summer of 2014 meet up to start the summer off right.

With fantastic food and company, we welcomed them with games such as football, Frisbee, corn-hole, and ladder ball. Camaraderie, teamwork, and building relationships towards success are a big part of our culture.

Team building and activities such as the ones we hold open communications and create leadership opportunities. Our interns and team members  are able to express ideas and opinions, becoming more motivated to take on new challenges, all while having fun and developing friendships and productive work relationships.

Overall, our event was a success in those regards, enabling better communication, better relationships and encouragement to engage and express creativity. Take a look at some of the best photos of the 2014 meet up:

Cydcor is in Mexico with Operation Smile this week!

Last year, Cydcor raised over $270,000 for Operation Smile to help fund cleft palate surgeries for needy children around the globe.  In July, the fundraiser surpassed $150,000, enough to fund a medical mission to another country.  The mission involves sending doctors, volunteers and equipment to an area where access to healthcare is difficult, and provide screenings and surgeries for children.  Cleft palates often result in complications eating, drinking and speaking, and many infants do not survive.  Those that do often cannot attend school.  Operation Smile hopes to restore millions of smiles and give those children a better chance at thriving.

This week, Cydcor volunteers are in San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico, meeting some of the people the money they raised are helping.  In 2012, volunteers made a similar trip to Brazil, where more than 600 surgeries were provided to children.  Cydcor is proud of their partnership with Operation Smile and plans to continue working with the organization in the future.

During the mission, volunteers have had the chance to spend time with the families of the children being operated on and see them through the transition of the surgery.  Part of the strategy of Operation Smile is to assist facilities in the field to achieve the ability to provide the treatment of cleft palates and other facial deformities on their own.

You can make a donation to Operation Smile today and support this great cause. Help Cydcor fund another mission!

Cydcor began a project working with EARTHS magnet school this year to mentor and tutor students for the elementary school.

Each day of the week, two different team members from Cydcor volunteer for an hour in one of these classrooms, working with children and teachers on a variety of projects and learning sessions.

Last year, Cydcor team members created literacy kits for faculty, which contained games and activities for students to encourage reading comprehension. Volunteers also assisted the school in a gardening project – in line with the earth science focus of the magnet school.

“Cydcor volunteers are a true gift to our students! Our kindergarten children look forward to interacting with the Cydcor staff, and their presence allows students to receive individual and small group time,” said Jennifer Boone, principal of EARTHS. “The time and impact mentors have on our children is priceless. Cydcor is a true example of a business that gives back to the community.”

“Our goal is to support EARTHS by mentoring the kids, helping them cultivate confidence in their own skills and abilities,” said Cydcor Chief Operating Officer Vera Quinn. “Gaining the academic skills to succeed is just one part. Mentorship is so important to the overall development of children, and we really want to make a difference in their lives.”

Thousands of reasons… (and dollars) to smile!

This past weekend, the Cydcor team hosted our first “Day of Smiles,” a fundraiser held throughout the United States and Canada among our network of independently-owned offices for Operation Smile.  In addition to our own team members, more than 200 sales offices put their sales powers to work to raise money to provide cleft palate surgeries for children! Though we have been supporters for years – and have raised enough for two medical missions, one of which took place last year in Rio De Janeiro – Operation Smile is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary, and we wanted to do something special and help fund our third medical mission.

The grand tally isn’t in yet, but we are definitely on track to achieving that goal thanks to the dedication and hard work of our team members and sales offices! We will keep you updated on our tallies as more offices send in their funds.  I estimate that we had more than 2,000 people volunteering their time participating in the Day of Smiles. Imagine that… 2,000 people focused on changing the world and many lives at the same time.

At Cydcor, our team members went door-to-door and stood outside Jersey Mike’s in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, and Newbury Park, along with Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas.  Special thanks to them for their support! It’s just another example of the community come together to work toward a shared goal.

Once again, a huge appreciation to our team members and volunteers who supported the effort.  We are looking forward to making a huge difference in the lives of children and their families around the world. Watch the dollars grow and check out Cydcor’s Operation Smile Page.

Cydcor Operation Smile Garage Sale Funds Two More Surgeries!

Garage Sale Funds Two More Surgeries!

A big thank-you to our team members who volunteered to come out last Saturday for our MEGA Garage sale to raise money for Operation Smile.  We raised over $600, which is enough to help two children have a better life by restoring their smile.

The sale took place on Saturday, September 7th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Earth Elementary School’s basketball courts.  Gently used items were donated by Cydcor team members just days before the sale.

Team members that donated items were also eligible for raffle tickets to win a lunch with our CEO, Gary Polson.  Volunteers who helped us set up and take down the sale got five tickets!  Congratulations to our winner, Miriam Caballero, who also received recognition this week from our Joy Germ Club for spreading the most smiles around the office.

The Cydcor home office has now reached our overall goal of raising $30,000 for Operation Smile.  In addition to the sale, we organized a snack bar, wine tasting, movie nights, a karaoke event and more.  The $30,000 is part of an overall company goal to fund a $150,000 medical trip overseas.  This is the second year in a row that Cydcor has been able to raise over $150,000 for Operation Smile

We incorporated our fundraising for Operation Smile into the games, too, by selling water, having food trucks donate a portion of what they sold, holding a cornhole tournament, and so much more. Our participation was stellar, with a diverse group of team members participating at the events. Check out our video here.
