Cydcor volunteers on our previous mission trip to San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico.

In March of this year, Cydcor volunteers went to San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico, thanks to our Operation Smile fundraisers—which have raised over $480,000 for the children’s medical charity to date. Helping to fund cleft palate surgeries for needy children around the globe, Cydcor has previously volunteered in Brazil in 2012, where more than 600 surgeries were provided to children.

Cydcor is proud of this partnership with Operation Smile, and with the great success of our Week of Smiles campaign, we are funding another medical mission trip to Guatemala in November 2014. Spending a week in Guatemala, our volunteers will support the screening process, helping families through the procedure and entertaining children while they wait for their procedures.

The mission involves sending doctors, volunteers and equipment to an area where access to healthcare is difficult, providing screenings and surgeries for children. Cleft palates often result in complications to eating, drinking, speaking and even breathing, and many infants do not survive. Operation Smile and Cydcor hope to restore millions of smiles and give those children a better chance of thriving.

One of the most rewarding aspects is our chance to spend time with the families of the children being operated on and see them through the transition of surgery. A large part of Operation Smile’s strategy is to assist facilities in the field, helping enable them to provide treatment of cleft palates and other facial deformities.

You can make a donation to Operation Smile today and support this great cause!

In 2010, Wayne State University began a research project that examined the baseball cards of players in the Major League from 1952. The study found that the researchers could predict the lifespan of the players based on their smiles. The players who smiled in their cards lived an average of 79.9 years. Those who didn’t smile lived an average of only 72 years.

UC Berkley did a similar study, examining the smiles of students in yearbooks versus their general well-being and success. The thirty-year study found that researchers were able to predict how successful a student would be based on how wide their smiles were in the photos.

The concept of smiling is universal, with studies conducted in Papua New Guinea with tribes completely disconnected from Western culture. These tribes were found to also attribute smiles to happiness, security and confidence.

So how can this knowledge help someone in a real world or workplace setting? Timothy Ketelaar, an associate professor of psychology at New Mexico State University that has run similar studies says, “Smiles can put you in a positive light by signaling that you’re friendly and trustworthy, and that you aren’t a threat to others.”

In fact, even sounding like one is smiling can be beneficial to building trust. Many call center companies train their employees to smile while they speak, as the act of smiling can alter one’s voice to a happier, pleasant tone which can translate over the phone to clients.

The act of smiling is also contagious, as one Harvard University study found. The research showed that when a person is happy or smiling, a person nearby has a 25 percent higher chance of becoming happier themselves.

These studies and results show that if you want to appear confident, calm and competent, smiling is a straightforward and universal way to display it. Tap into the simple superpower of smiling, and you’ll find yourself feeling better, building trust and establishing long-lasting, positive relationships.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cydcor, the leading provider of professional in-person sales teams, raised and contributed funds for Operation Smile, a children's medical charity that provides life-changing surgeries to children internationally born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

Their donation helped to fund a recent medical mission to San Cristobal, Mexico, which took place in March with five top fundraisers from Cydcor and the company's network of independently-owned offices. This year's mission came on the heels of the 2012 mission to Rio de Janeiro. During the Mexicomedical mission, 99 patients were operated on and 125 procedures were performed.

"Having our friends from Cydcor with us was an exceptional addition to the experience. Each participant showed true passion for all aspects of the events taking place, from helping and playing with the children and engaging with families, to taking a hands-on role in setting up for the medical mission," saidCourtney Kass, Operation Smile development officer. "Their energy, focus, and hard work extended through their fundraising efforts to the final days of the mission. We're proud to continue our partnership and thank Cydcor for all that they do to help children worldwide through Operation Smile!"

In 2013, Cydcor and their network of offices held the first-ever "Day of Smiles," which raised approximately $100,000 for the organization – surpassing their$90,000 goal. It was the single largest fundraising effort that helped to fund the medical mission to Mexico.

"We saw firsthand the positive impact that Operation Smile has on the communities they support.  In the short time we were on the mission, we developed bonds with the children and their families and we felt like we made a difference in their lives.  It was a truly humbling experience," said Jim Siegrist, mission attendee and senior vice president of business development at Cydcor.

"We're grateful that our organization can play a part in making a big difference," said Cydcor Chief Operating Officer Vera Quinn. "We are close to raising funds to support a third mission and take heartfelt pride in helping these families who otherwise would have no way of obtaining life-changing surgery."

Cydcor is in Mexico with Operation Smile this week!

Mar 13, 2014

Last year, Cydcor raised over $270,000 for Operation Smile to help fund cleft palate surgeries for needy children around the globe.  In July, the fundraiser surpassed $150,000, enough to fund a medical mission to another country.  The mission involves sending doctors, volunteers and equipment to an area where access to healthcare is difficult, and provide screenings and surgeries for children.  Cleft palates often result in complications eating, drinking and speaking, and many infants do not survive.  Those that do often cannot attend school.  Operation Smile hopes to restore millions of smiles and give those children a better chance at thriving.

This week, Cydcor volunteers are in San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico, meeting some of the people the money they raised are helping.  In 2012, volunteers made a similar trip to Brazil, where more than 600 surgeries were provided to children.  Cydcor is proud of their partnership with Operation Smile and plans to continue working with the organization in the future.

During the mission, volunteers have had the chance to spend time with the families of the children being operated on and see them through the transition of the surgery.  Part of the strategy of Operation Smile is to assist facilities in the field to achieve the ability to provide the treatment of cleft palates and other facial deformities on their own.

Recycling Trash Into Smiles

Recycling Trash Into Smiles!

cydcor recycles
Cydcor team members recycle for cash!

We know little things can add up to a big difference.  In continuing our fundraising work for Operation Smile, we have been collecting recyclables and donating the proceeds!

We placed recycling containers designated especially for Operation Smile fundraising around the office. Once they are filled, a Cydcor team member volunteer brings the items to the recycling center to collect the refund.

We have already raised enough for one Smile (each one is $240) and are well on our way to another – our current tally is almost $380!

Since partnering with Operation Smile in 2010, Cydcor and volunteers from  its network of independently-owned sales companies have raised enough to fund two medical missions, and are well on the way to a third! The missions take place in areas of the world with limited medical care; a team of professionals provide cleft palate surgeries to those who would have no way of obtaining the surgery otherwise.

We’re really excited about each and every dollar we are able to raise and contribute. Operation Smile is our passion. Recycling is so easy to do and can really add up – and make a difference.

Cydcor is happy and proud of its efforts to give back to the communities that support our business.  You can donate to the Cydcor Operation Smile page today and make a difference in a child’s life.

Thousands of reasons… (and dollars) to smile!

This past weekend, the Cydcor team hosted our first “Day of Smiles,” a fundraiser held throughout the United States and Canada among our network of independently-owned sales companies for Operation Smile.  In addition to our own team members, more than 200 participating sales companies put their sales powers to work to raise money to provide cleft palate surgeries for children! Though we have been supporters for years – and have raised enough for two medical missions, one of which took place last year in Rio De Janeiro – Operation Smile is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary, and we wanted to do something special and help fund our third medical mission.

The grand tally isn’t in yet, but we are definitely on track to achieving that goal thanks to the dedication and hard work of our team members and sales offices! We will keep you updated on our tallies as more independent sales company volunteers send in their funds.  I estimate that we had more than 2,000 people volunteering their time participating in the Day of Smiles. Imagine that… 2,000 people focused on changing the world and many lives at the same time.

At Cydcor, our team members went door-to-door and stood outside Jersey Mike’s in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, and Newbury Park, along with Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas.  Special thanks to them for their support! It’s just another example of the community come together to work toward a shared goal.

Once again, a huge appreciation to our team members and volunteers who supported the effort.  We are looking forward to making a huge difference in the lives of children and their families around the world. Watch the dollars grow and check out Cydcor’s Operation Smile Page.

Using Sales Power for Good: Cydcor on Fundraising

Cydcor Operation Smile

This week the team at Cydcor and its network of independent sales offices will launch the Day of Smiles campaign for Operation Smile.  Operation Smile is a nonprofit that provides cleft palate surgeries to children all over the world.  One in ten children globally are born with a cleft palate, and many of them do not survive past the age of one.  This summer, Cydcor and its sales network were able to a medical mission that would provide downs of surgeries to children in poor areas.  Last year, the company raised enough money to provide nearly 100 surgeries, and the goal is double this year.  The day of smiles campaign will last October 4th through the 6th, and the goal is to raise $150,000 by the end of the short campaign.  Here are our favorite tips on how to raise money for your cause:

  1. Ask everyone you know to support you.  Remember you friends want to help you out, and you may need to ask more than once.  Ask people directly, with a personal touch, rather than just posting about it online. It is more work to do it that way, but you will get better results.
  2. Do something fun!  At Cydcor, we held garage sales, casino nights, bowling tournaments and sold brown bag lunches to raise funds.  Plan a low cost event or something to sell that incentivizes people in your community.
  3. Do not stop sharing.  Share online, in your neighborhood, wear t-shirts, talk to everyone you meet.  Tell everyone you know all about your cause, and share facts and stories about why their donation would be helpful.  Know your cause well, and keep producing talking points to share with your network on and offline.

Vera Quinn on the Day of Smiles

I have been with Cydcor for seventeen years.  In 2010, we launched our partnership with Operation Smile.  The work we do to raise money for this cause has added an extra level of meaning to the work we do at Cydcor and our community.  We were already giving employees volunteer hours and donated to charities, but we especially appreciate our special relationship with Operation Smile. I was able to participate in the mission last year, and I got to see first hand how we have the power to change lives for good.

Vera Quinn in Brazil for Cydcor

Last year, we were able to raise enough money to fund a mission to provide cleft palate surgeries to children in need.  Cleft palates often cause complications for feeding and breathing in infants, and many of them don’t survive.  The surgeries we were able to fund have been able to change the lives of these children and their families.  The trip was able to pay for nearly 620 surgeries for patients in Brazil.

Cydcor volunteers in Brazil

The success of Cydcor is based on our distinctive culture, which is one that is passionate about giving back to communities around the world.  We have already been able to fund one more medical mission this year, and our goal is fund another.  That is why we decided to launch the Day of Smiles Campaign. This weekend will unite participating teams from our network of more than 200 independent sales companies to raise money and hit our total goal of $400,000 for the year.

Our office has been developing programs throughout the year to raise money for our cause.  We believe this weekend alone will fund a $150,000 mission.  We ask for your support in restoring smiles to children around the world.  Please visit Cydcor’s Operation Smile Team page to donate now.  If two dozen people donate just ten dollars, we can fund a surgery.

Also, please follow Cydcor on Twitter and our Cydcor Operation Smile Facebook page to keep up with all the activity.  If you are participating in the fundraiser, be sure to tell your friends online about it with the hashtag #dayofsmiles.

Cydcor Launches “Day of Smiles” on October 4th to Heal Smiles and Save the Lives of Children Born with Facial Deformities

Oct 1, 2013

Operation Smile, an international children’s medical charity, has announced that Cydcor, the global leader in outsourced sales, is launching the first-ever “Day of Smiles” beginning October 4th and running through October 6th to help children around the world who are born with facial deformities. All proceeds will benefit Operation Smile.

Cydcor and its network of independently-owned sales offices across North America will be working together on the same day to raise funds for Operation Smile. All participants will wear tee-shirts emblazoned with Operation Smile’s 30th anniversary campaign theme, change ™, designed to make a lasting impact for children born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

Last year, Cydcor and its independent sales offices raised more than $150,000 to support a medical mission. This year, Cydcor and its network of independently-owned sales offices met another goal of $150,000, which will enable them to sponsor another medical mission.

Cydcor has set an overall goal of raising $400,000 to help Operation Smile provide free surgeries for children around the world born with cleft lips and cleft palates. Together, Cydcor and Operation Smile are giving smiles and transforming children’s lives worldwide.

Last year, during Cydcor’s medical mission to Rio De Janeiro, Operation Smile provided more than 95 free surgeries and more than 162 healthcare evaluations for children who were suffering from cleft lips and cleft palates.

Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft. One in 10 will die before their first birthday. For 30 years, Operation Smile and its network of more than 5,400 medical volunteers from around the world have provided more than 3.8 million healthcare evaluations and performed more than 200,000 free surgeries for children in need. However, many children are still waiting – children who often can’t eat or speak properly. Operation Smile can help give them a healthy, productive life filled with hope.

“It is such a pleasure to partner with Cydcor and its independent sales office teams, because they are incredibly motivated and dedicated to helping give smiles to these children around the world,” said Dr. Bill Magee, CEO and Co-Founder of Operation Smile. “Their teams truly understand how incredible it is to change the life of a child forever – a child who was been born into the world with no hope. Our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of companies like Cydcor.”

“We believe that our success is based on our distinctive culture; there is a passion we all have to give back to our communities,” said Vera Quinn, chief operating officer at Cydcor. “I personally have been on a medical mission and have seen the new smiles on the faces of these children. We have all been developing programs throughout the year to raise money. Our ‘Day of Smiles’ program will unite more than 200 offices on the same weekend to help hit our $400,000 goal.”

Independent sales companies sold brown bag lunches, threw parties, held events and sales, and many more creative ideas from coast to coast. Check out our video of all of our fantastic, engaged team members.
