Entrepreneurs need to be workers, managers, and leaders willing to work hard, take risks, and turn obstacles into opportunities.

Entrepreneurs bring a mindset for success to every activity. They have an outlook that welcomes innovation and adapts quickly to new business strategies. At Cydcor, we value people with a passion for providing outstanding customer service. We also believe that a commitment to ongoing professional development is a key component to the growth of each entrepreneur.

Here are some strategies that will help you improve your performance, contribute to your company’s success, and become a great entrepreneur.

Have a Plan

An entrepreneur must have a practical plan for success that includes daily, weekly, and monthly goals. Track your accomplishments’ impact on your company’s performance. Streamline your work process. Volunteer for opportunities to do more.

Know It All

Entrepreneurs are curious, open to learning about their industry, and listen to what customers want. They’re experts at what they do, bringing a fiery passion to their work every day that inspires those around them.

Be Firm and Flexible

An entrepreneur understands the importance of negotiation. When you reach a breaking point in a negotiation, be flexible. Use your entrepreneurial spirit to optimize your offerings in response to your customers’ needs.

Take a Risk

Entrepreneurs must be willing to risk their time and effort and become comfortable with uncertainty. So, learn to evaluate risk and estimate the value of your time against potential gains.

Build a Team

Entrepreneurs are leaders who know they can’t accomplish everything by themselves and know the importance of having a strong team to support them. Make sure to check in with your team members often. Ask if they need help. Allow them to provide their input when taking decisions. Celebrate the team’s victories and have fun together. An entrepreneur may be able to work alone, but will succeed and will go further only with a team.

Make a Difference

Highly valued entrepreneurs use their success to make a difference. They understand that giving back to the community is necessary.  There is no greater reward than knowing you’ve made a significant change in someone’s life. In addition, establishing a brand with a reputation for social good builds consumer recognition and trust. As Virgin Group founder Richard Branson said: “doing good is good for business.”

Believe in yourself, in your vision, and in the value that your work brings to your customers and your community. Focus on these strategies, work hard, and support your team, and you will become a great entrepreneur.

What’s your favorite part about being an entrepreneur? Share your experience on Cydcor’s Facebook page and let us know what you think. We value your experiences and look forward to hearing from you.

Start Your Day The Night Before

Start Your Day The Night Before - Cydcor WordPress
Flickr CC via muctoff

The most productive part of your day happens the night before.

If you set aside 10-30 minutes each night to plan for the coming day, you’ll wake up with a purpose and will be ready to act on your to priorities for the day. Developing an evening routine may not only help you get better sleep by not rushing through the morning but will also help set your day for success.

It may take adjustment to find an evening routine that works for you. Start with these suggestions Cydcor has for you and see if they help you start the day off on the right foot.

Get Alarmed

Decide on a bedtime and stick to it. Get up at the same time every morning. Set an alarm to remind you to start your evening preparations. Consider using a fun and friendly alarm tone if it makes getting up easier—whatever works. The key here is actually getting up when the alarm goes off—resist the urge to hit that snooze button! Be ready to wake up and start the day with an optimistic attitude.

Plan Your Meals

Healthy eating provides the energy and stamina you need throughout the day. Just before bed, prep next day’s breakfast, make your lunch, and decide what you’ll have for dinner the following evening. You may finally eat that broccoli you always say you’re going to eat—instead of just ordering takeout due to having to run for a last minute meal.

Straighten Up

Walk around your living space and put away things that are out of place. Wash your dishes and put them away. Waking up in a clean house reduces your stress levels and gives your day a calm start. Plus, when you get home at the end of the day, you’ll feel relaxed instead of stressed about all the tidying that needs to get done.

Dress Rehearsal

Pick out your clothes for the next day. Organizing your clothes and planning your outfits takes the stress out of getting dressed. You’ll know when laundry needs to be done and you won’t have to fuss with indecision in the morning when you’re still trying to just wake up. This is simply one of the best ways to always dress for success

Review Your Day

Take a look at your calendar and review tasks for the next day. Identify one or two things you want to accomplish. Study your schedule for any potential problems and schedule time to address them.

Get Inspired

Once your evening tasks are complete, read that book next to your bed. Find a writer or topic that will inspire a positive attitude and personal growth. Be sure to check out Cydcor’s recommended books that every manager needs to read. You’ll conquer your day with enthusiasm, optimism, a nourishing breakfast, and a killer sense of style.

A Positive Attitude Will Make You Better at Business

A Positive Attitude Will Make You Better at Business Cydcor WordPress

Becoming positive is a choice, a state of mind, and a feeling. Optimism is an essential component for developing a positive attitude.

Have you ever had to resolve a tough situation involving an unhappy customer? If so, then you know just how important—and how game changing—having a positive attitude can be. Where pessimism would work against you, optimism helps focus your energy, find opportunities, and solutions in the face of adversity.

A positive attitude is crucial for anyone who works in sales. Below, we’ve provided some techniques you can use to develop the positive attitude required to provide your team and your customers with the solutions they need.

Optimize Each Opportunity

Here’s a secret for crafting a positive attitude: The specific assignment doesn’t matter. What matters is how you approach the task at hand. If all you can see are problems, write them down and find solutions to turn them around. If you need support, ask for insight from your team members or supervisor. You do have the power to be the positive change!

Win With Words

Change your vocabulary. Say things like, “I’m going to learn a lot from this assignment” instead of “But I don’t know how to do any of this!” Not only will this help you keep a positive attitude, but it will also influence your team members to do the same.

Look at each part of the challenge with a solutions-minded attitude. Every element is an opportunity and an invitation to succeed. Every assignment you receive provides an opportunity to improve your success and prove your value.

Contradict Complainers

You will always encounter complainers. When you run into one, ignore their comments. Nod, smile, say thank you, and then get back to work. Your steady progress and ultimate achievement may even convince them it’s time to change their point of view.

Banish Bad News

Negativity is also found in the news, on social media, and professional publications related to your industry. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but you should reject the impulse to support and spread bad news. Play inspirational music instead of engaging with negative content.

Practice Positive Visualization

See yourself closing the deal before you start a conversation with your customer. If your first call of the day doesn’t work out, say to yourself, “Every sales call is different.” If someone changes their mind, remind yourself that, “I’m creating a positive experience for my customer, and satisfied customers are more likely to stay—and less likely to spread dissatisfaction.”

Perfecting a positive attitude takes practice. To maintain a motivated mindset, schedule ten minutes every day to read an inspirational book, speak to your mentor, or review messages that inspire you with feelings of strength and hope. Making a date with motivation every day will improve your chances of developing a powerful positive attitude.

Tell us what you do to stay positive when facing a difficult task! Post your tips on Twitter, follow us @Cydcor, and share this blog with your friends. Start a conversation with your community!

As you celebrate the New Year, reflect back on the one we’re just finishing up. What were your biggest successes? Your most frustrating failures? Consider the coming months and use this year’s experiences to identify possible challenges and desired goals.

After a month or two, the New Year loses some of its initial excitement and may move back into that place of hard work and routine. It’s during these times that we need support and encouragement to continue moving onward and upward the most.

We’ve selected 12 inspirational quotes from some seriously smart men and women in a variety of professions. Their wit and wisdom are just the spark you’ll need to pump up your optimism!

1. "If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door." – Milton Berle, American humorist, and actor

And always remember that you’re never alone when you surround yourself with wise and thoughtful friends.

Utilize Body Language to Improve Your Professional Performance

Utilize Body Language to Improve Your Professional Performance Cydcor

Becoming fluent in body language empowers you to make a lasting impression on colleagues and supervisors

Your conversation begins when you enter the room—before you begin to speak. Your body expresses your moods and, depending on your awareness of how your body talks, you will communicate confidence or fear. Fortunately for you, it’s possible to learn to communicate confidence nonverbally.

Practice makes perfect. Strategies for controlling nonverbal communication are easy to learn and fun to practice. Don’t be afraid to feel silly when you try them. Have you heard the expression, “fake it ‘til you make it”? It means that when you’re trying something new you should pretend to be an expert. Expertise will come in time.

Harvard professor Amy Cuddy suggests that posing for two minutes will have a significant positive impact on your confidence. We have a few poses you can start practicing today:

Strong Man Pose

Flex your muscles if you’re hearing negative information. It will help you remain focused. Curl up both arms as if you’re showing of your biceps. Flex your legs and bend your knees slightly. This is a bit of a cartoon pose, and you should have fun with it. Try it out before a meeting or presentation.

Superman Pose

Stand straight and tall. Place your hands on your waist and put your chin in the air. Hold your head high. This pose is a powerful tool for situations where you might feel anxious or afraid. Try using it a few minutes before giving a speech or presentation.

Embody Your Success

Sit comfortably in your desk chair. Call up a memory of a past success and let that positive energy fill your chest with each breath. Send that warm glow up and down your spine, out across your shoulders, into your arms and hands and down into your legs and feet.  Feel the emotional power of your past successes come to life and ignite the positive power you carry inside.

Face Facts

Your face communicates your emotions, moods, and attitudes without you having to say a word. If your audience interprets your expression as sad, confused, or angry, you may lose them even before you start to speak.

You can improve your facial expressions with a little effort, awareness, and practice. It’s probably easier to schedule these efforts for important social, professional, or networking events. Tilt your head slightly to the side. Practice smiling and making eye contact with your audience  to show that you are actively interested.

So, go ahead, pick a power pose and give it a try. What does it feel like? Do you have any other cool tips to help improve body language? Share with us! Comment here, share your story on Twitter, and follow us @Cydcor. Share this article with your friends and start a conversation with your community!

Cultivating Success Through Integrity in the Workplace

Integrity means that you have high moral principles and follow professional standards. Simply put—to practice integrity in the workplace you can’t just talk the talk—you have to walk the walk. A lack of integrity can lead to poor decision-making and have a negative influence on your work and your employer.

Integrity Begins With You

Be well groomed at all times. Keep your work area and your car neat and clean. This habit shows that you care about the impressions you make as a representative of your company. Clients and colleagues will see that you respect your employer’s values and are a responsible person. If you make a promise you must keep it. It proves that you’re a dependable person. Only agree to provide services that you can actually deliver. Don’t over promise. If you do something wrong, fix it as soon as possible.

How Do I Show Integrity at Work?

You have to be honest and ethical in all of your actions if you want to practice integrity in the workplace. Understand that you’re a role model for your colleagues, clients, and vendors. Be consistent about how you apply your ethical standards. Rely on facts at all times in your interactions at work. Never make excuses or avoid sharing bad news. Integrity requires that you speak up when you notice a practice or behavior that diverges from the company’s ethical standards.

Practice Company-wide Integrity

Practicing integrity at work provides positive outcomes for your company. However, you need to understand how your company practices integrity. Become familiar with your company’s core values and use them as a guide for developing your workplace integrity. Allow your team members to share their concerns about anything they see as going against your company’s values. Encourage an atmosphere that supports honesty and fairness.

Integrity Welcomes Risk

Every decision you make will involve some elements of risk. You must be willing to take a risk in order to achieve excellence and be competitive. If there are objections to your suggestions, remain positive. Gaining support from team members and stakeholders requires effort. Do the work. Ask for input from all participants and encourage them to share their concerns.

Practice What You Preach

Your behavior at work must offer a good example for your team members, colleagues, customers, and your community. Recognize your own skills and appreciate the contributions of others. Share your experience with your team and help them to develop their own integrity in the workplace.

Cydcor Reviews 'The Magic of Thinking Big'

Jun 25, 2015

Here's the latest book review from Cydcor, The Magic of Thinking Big.

About The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz

Over four million readers have religiously taken notes on The Magic of Thinking Big. This book is a great starting point on how to achieve things most people want: financial security, power, influence, a dream job, a happy life. Dr. David J. Schwartz, an excellent expert on motivation, crafted this book to help anyone sell and manage better, earn more money, and—most important of all—find happiness.

First published in 1959, many of the suggestions to think big that Schwartz suggest are still great ideas 56 years later. Schwartz presents a carefully designed program for getting the most out of a professional career, romance, and family life, as well as the local community. You don’t need to be a genius to find great success and satisfaction—but you do need to learn and understand the habit of thinking and behaving in ways that can get you there.

Why Cydcor Reviews recommends this to future leaders:

The Magic of Thinking Big is arguably one of the best books ever written about the road to success. This is one of those books that you come back to again and again to find new inspiration. Success is most definitely determined by how we think and how we react to situations that occur in our lives. This is an excellent book for leaders due to its many chapters of encouragement, inspiration, and real life stories of people who made the decision to see things positively and had their lives change for the better. This book can teach leaders that in order to overcome fear or obstacles in life, a person must have an optimistic and confident attitude.

Our favorite part:

Throughout The Magic of Thinking Big, Schwartz lays out the steps that are required to acquire the secrets of success. He also describes three “diseases” that people can suffer from that lead to failure: excuse-itis, detail-itis and procrastination. This book can help build anyone’s confidence and mentality, while still inspiring them to think differently. In short, making smarter decisions and avoiding negativity are key to discovering the importance of thinking big in all facets of our lives.

The Best Ways to Earn a Promotion

Cydcor Earning A Promotion

Cydcor has previously written about Toxic Employee Traits That Can Slow Progress, but it's also important to mention how to continue career progress. You will never advance simply by sitting at your desk, answering emails, and filing reports. A promotion is earned. Achieving a promotion isn’t an impossible goal. But to get there you need a good plan. The following suggestions are your starting points for success.

Evaluate Your Skills

You wouldn’t have been hired if you weren’t good at your job. But are you producing enough positive results to earn a promotion? Before you request a promotion, evaluate your job performance. Ask yourself the hard questions—face your fear.

  • Do you always close the sale?
  • Do colleagues seek your advice?
  • Do you regularly contribute to your company’s success?

It’s Not All About You

You will never achieve success by yourself. Your colleagues are an important part of your advancement. Study what they do. Understand their pain points. Improving their productivity is a leadership skill and contributes to your chance for promotion.

Write Your Future

Write the story of your career. Imagine where it will lead. This exercise provides a private place to draft new possibilities for your work life. It’s a safe place to practice taking risks. Don’t waste time creating a fantasy about wealth and power. Your career is serious work.

Become the Resident Optimist

Don’t get distracted by the inevitable complaints you hear during the day. Is it hard to do? Yes, sometimes it is. Everyone has bad days. But remember this: negative is easy, positive is hard. Don’t complain—explain. Don’t spread rumors—educate. Build a reputation for being constructive, informed, and open-minded.

Your Evaluation Happens Every Day

Do you ever feel invisible when your workload is building up? During these times remember that your supervisors are taking note of how you manage stress while you reach your goals. If you feel stuck in a negative take time for a mental stretch. Many corporate leaders find insight and get reenergized when they meditate.

Ask For Help

Sometimes you’ll come across a problem you can’t figure out. You need to be brave enough to ask for help. Find a mentor. Build a resource team from various departments. Share the problem. You will be remembered solving problems with creative strategy. Never ignore the wealth of institutional experience at work.

Unexpected Traits All Millionaires Share

Big bank accounts aren’t the only thing that millionaires have in common. In order to find success, millionaires have to fully develop traits including courage, vision, and passion. Millionaires use a different line of thinking than everyone else. It’s not just about money, but life as a whole. Since thoughts have an effect on actions, people who want to one day be a millionaire should have the mindset to do so. Here are a few traits that many millionaires share:

Vision

Millionaires are creatives who are constantly seeking the next master plan. These people not only have big dreams, but they also believe that those dreams will one day come true. As such, wealth seekers should set lofty goals and not be afraid of uncharted territories. Professionals need to be constantly scheming about the next step and never dwelling on the past.

Passion

In order to fully reach peak potential, people need to be passionate about what they do for a living. Being able to enjoy work allows a person to build discipline and work their hardest every day. Ask any millionaire, and they’ll tell you that they enjoyed their journey to the top, no matter the difficulty. They believed in what they were doing and knew they really had something to work with. Find that passion, and one day you will realize you’ve loved what you’re doing for years.

Salesmanship

How are your sales skills? Millionaires are constantly pitching their concepts and plans, trying to sell others on the idea. Many millionaires also have well-developed social skills. Being able to converse with anyone and tell their side of the story makes things a lot easier. Developing sales skills, either professionally or on the side, can add a lot of weight to their business abilities.

No Fear

No one wants to find out they haven’t been successful with their latest endeavor. Most of us are afraid of failure. The thought of failure brings about a negative reaction and immediately brings up our insecurities. However, being afraid of failure also creates a fear of changing things. Nothing ever grows in the comfort zone. Millionaires know that failure is an essential part of success. We learn many things from falling down, but what matters is how we get back up. For millionaires, failure is just one step closer to real success.

Not many people love it, and almost no one just likes it. Waking up early to catch the worm on a regular basis is not the easiest thing in the world. However, there are countless benefits to waking up earlier than scheduled, having a healthy morning routine can all be the first step to reaching success. Get started today with these morning routine tips:

The Obvious: Breakfast

Touted as the most important meal of the day, breakfast can have a big impact on how the rest of your day goes. Starting off the day with a healthy and balanced meal can guarantee you have enough energy for anything you are up for. Fruits, whole grains, and eggs are all nutrient rich foods that will keep you full and focused. Try and stay away from anything with too many carbohydrates; foods like bagels or donuts have a tendency to slow people down after the initial sugar high ends.

Meditate

When was the last time you had a few minutes to yourself? Our lives have never been busier, so it’s important to take a step back and let yourself focus on where you are in your life. Even fifteen minutes of guided meditation (Cydcor recommends the app Headspace) can make a world of difference. Being able to find moments of tranquility and relaxation during a hectic schedule will help you find success.

Staying Informed

No matter what your source of news is, take a few minutes each morning to catch up with the world. What is everyone talking and caring about? This not only helps to keep you informed, but also allows you to learn things that can be helpful for the rest of the day. Maybe it’s bringing up a new social app at lunch for coworkers, or learning some new tips on making the most of the workday. Being able to be caught up in the world as its benefits, and they show well at work.

Exercise

To stay cool and relaxed under pressure is something that all successful people need to be able to do. One way to improve this is to exercise in the morning. Try going for an early morning jog or doing a few push-ups before breakfast—anything to get your heart beating a little faster. The physicality of the activity will get your energy up for the day, clearing your mind and allowing you to focus on the most important things. Did you know that Apple CEO Tim Cook hits the gym every morning at 5 a.m.?

Top Success Quotes—and What They Mean For You

"If you work just for money, you'll never make it, but if you love what you're doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours."

-Ray Kroc, businessman

Money is not the be-all and end-all of success. First, love what you are doing and take full gratification in pledging yourself entirely to your work and the needs of your client or business. This outlook on your work can transform the level of success and happiness you achieve throughout your life.

"The secret to productive goal setting is in establishing clearly defined goals, writing them down and then focusing on them several times a day with words, pictures and emotions as if we've already achieved them."

-Denis Waitley, author and motivational speaker

Creating a clear plan is key. Start by envisioning yourself experiencing success every day of your life. You are more likely to commit to keeping promises and staying on your goal path by visually focusing on them daily.

"It is not what we get. But who we become, what we contribute... that gives meaning to our lives."

-Tony Robbins, life coach

A large part of being successful means remembering others in your lives and how each person helped you get where you are today. True happiness and self-satisfaction is not measured by material wealth or possessions. Rather, it is the way you influence others and how you developed your character that makes life significant.

"Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood."

-Helen Keller, author

Why do some things happen one way while other things happen differently? In order to fully understand why events occur the way they do, you must experience them first hand. Never just take someone else’s word for it; go out and live life to the fullest.
